Never considered becoming a support worker before? Many of our most enthusiastic support workers come from other industries, such as hospitality, catering and sales. They tell us they are glad they made the move from a job to a career that matters.
Gill: Area Manager

I was working as a receptionist when my sister got a job as a support worker. I wanted to try it, too. I began as a community support worker in a supported living house and picked up shifts across Homecare to gain experience. I’m not confident in interviews, but when a position came up managing a house I knew I could do it. I got the job and twelve months later became a manager of two houses. Over the next three years, I took over three houses and then seven houses! Taking on more responsibility has given me the confidence that I can do the right thing.
The best part of the job: It’s great to see people progress to independence and their family’s pleasure.
